Quick Facts:

What: 36th San Diego Crew Classic, since 1973
When: April 4 & 5. 2009. In addition, crews will be on the water for practice throughout the day on Friday, April 3.
Where: Crown Point Shores on Mission Bay
Overview: Over 3,500 athletes from more than 100 clubs, universities and colleges from across the United States will be participating in this premier rowing event. For rowing events, the Crew Classic has been the marquee regatta on the West Coast for many years and has been on the rowing scene with many esteemed regattas such as Head of the Charles. The Crew Classic has been the competitive site of both future and current Olympians. The Crew Classic is also an event for rowers of all levels and from ages 14-84 compete each year in various divisions. Some are novice rowers, while others are reliving their college and club experiences. The masters level is the fastest growing segment of the sport with many masters rowers new to the sport.
Event Features: In addition to the outstanding racing, the San Diego Crew Classic features a trade show, great food and alumni and club tents along with great viewing of the racing from Crown Point Shores or on the massive jumbotron located adjacent to the merchandise and alumni areas.
Race Course: Begins near Sea World and heads North along Mission Bay for 2000 meters finishing at Crown Points Shores.
Schedule: Racing begins at approximately 7:30 on Saturday and Sunday. Racing action goes to approximately 5:00 on Saturday and the final race begins at about 2:00 on Sunday
Copley Cup/Whittier Cup 2008 Winners: Winning crews for the major events in 2008 were University of Washington in the Copley Cup (men) and the Jessop-Whittier Cup (women).
2008 Copley Cup Field: Washington, Stanford, Harvard, California, Princeton, Yale, Oregon State, Northeastern, Syracuse, Penn, Colgate, Purdue, UCSD. Harvard made their first appearance in San Diego since 2001. Also returning to San Diego was Princeton having last competed here in 1989, Yale (2002) and Syracuse (1996) were also in the prestigious Copley Cup.
2008 Jessop Whittier Cup Field: Clemson, Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, Louisville, USC, Wisconsin, Washington, Washington State
Admission: Ticket prices for the 2009 San Diego Crew Classic are $7.00 for ages 13 and older per day and parking is $10 per car. There is free Cloud 9 shuttle from free parking at Ski Beach.
