- COACHES LAUNCHES Coaches launches are permitted on the course during practice, subject to the rules and traffic patterns - see map and information in Coaches Packet. The Crew Classic® will not be offering launches for hire but have made arrangements for special rates at Dana Landing, 2580 Ingraham Street, located across Ingraham Street from the Start Line. Contact Steve at 619-226-2929. Launches may not be launched from the shell launching areas but may be launched in the north cove, along the fence. To keep the beach clear for shell traffic, teams who bring their own launches are asked to have them returned to trailers by Friday evening and kept there for the weekend. Loose or unattended launches will be impounded at 0430 Saturday morning. They may not be left on the beach or grass. As a courtesy to all competitors, it is requested that coaching launches refrain from motoring within the race course during practice sessions on Friday
- PRACTICE ON THE COURSE AND SAFETY RULES Barring unforeseen circumstances, the racecourse will be in place by Friday, April 4. It must be clearly understood that only the Fiesta Bay portion of Mission Bay is under the control of the San Diego Crew Classic® and only from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6. Crews are responsible for their own actions or omissions and must be alert to general boat traffic at all times. Each crew is responsible for obeying all publicly posted or provided traffic patterns as contained in the coach’s packet. Be aware that the racecourse traffic pattern is the reverse of the normal pattern in Fiesta Bay. Each crew must adhere to all water safety laws and safety practices. Flagrant safety violations will jeopardize a crew’s chance to participate in the Regatta. Rowing against the traffic pattern, disobeying directions of course monitors and practicing on the racecourse one half-hour after sunset are considered flagrant safety violations. During the week before the Crew Classic® crews should stay clear of motorboats installing the course, but otherwise may use the course and Mission Bay for practice, subject to the published traffic pattern available in Coach’s Packet at Check-in. All coxswains should carry a copy of the Mission Bay Traffic Pattern for the Crew Classic® Map (available in Coach’s Packets, the Information Booth, and at the Beachmaster’s stand on the launching beach). On the weekend, the course will be available for practice on Saturday evening only from one half hour after racing to one half-hour after sunset. No course practice will be available Saturday or Sunday morning, or Sunday evening. At these times and during racing, crews may practice in North Pacific Passage. Shells returning to San Diego boathouses or practicing elsewhere are subject to traffic control during racing, and must have an escort to cross the course. The Beachmaster will have updated information, and all crews practicing during racing should check out with the Beachmaster.
- MANDATORY COACHES’ AND COXSWAINS’ MEETING Friday April 4, 4:00 p.m. THERE IS ONLY ONE MEETING. Attendance of coaches is MANDATORY. Coxswains should also attend. The meeting will be held on Friday, April 4, at 4:00 p.m. on the knoll near the Information Center at the race site. Please DON’T BE LATE. A brief coxswain’s clinic covering alignment procedures will be conducted immediately following. All coxswains are strongly urged to attend. Honoraria will be distributed at this time.
- USRowing RULES OF RACING The 2007 USRowing Rules of Racing, as modified by Crew Classic® documents, will be in force.
- STARTS There will be stake boats for all starts. There is sometimes a crosswind with tidal current so it is mandatory that your crews are skilled in sculling the bow into position. The stake boat person cannot hold the stern if the boat is being maneuvered into position by taking a stroke.
- TRAILER/SHELL STORAGE AND LAUNCHNG
Use the Crown Point Beach Map (pdf) and the Beach Area Index (pdf) for the general area where your shells will be placed at the Regatta site. When you arrive at Crown Point you will see that each area is clearly marked with the letter you see on the map and is outlined in chalk. You may put your shells ONLY within the chalked area.
Driving Directions & Trailer Parking (pdf)
Please do not plan to deliver your trailer to the Park before Wednesday, except during daylight hours. There are gates in place at the Park entrances that are locked overnight. Limited security service will be available at the Regatta site beginning at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2. We strongly advise that crews leaving equipment at the site provide their own security before that time. Trailer parking is always tight. Please park your shell trailer between the marked lines in the dirt parking lot at the north end of the Park. It is requested that no car or van be parked in the dirt lot. The gate will not be staffed for repeat entry/exit by towing vehicles on Saturday and Sunday. If these vehicles are to be used for transportation around town, they will need a vehicle pass and must be parked in the Crew Parking Lot. Please make trailer drivers and crews aware of parking plans and locked Park entrance gates. All shells are stored at and launched from the Regatta site during the Regatta. Shells should be in place no later than noon on Friday, April 4. ALL SHELLS MUST BE LOCATED AS DESIGNATED ON THE CROWN POINT BEACH LAYOUT MAP. Our beaches are filled to capacity. Everyone’s cooperation is needed for smooth operations. - SHELL INSPECTION Beachmaster/Race Officials will inspect racing shells for condition and USRowing release/coxswain requirements before the Regatta. The inspection will include placing a colored dot marker on the stern deck; please don’t remove this mark before the shell’s last race. Any shell found to be in such disrepair as likely to sustain breakage under stress WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RACE. Ensure that older equipment used during the Regatta is in good repair before its’ arrival in San Diego. It is incumbent on all participating organizations to ensure that all equipment used in the regatta is in full compliance with USRowing Rules and prevailing safety standards.

Unattended oars and other equipment found out of place may temporarily vanish.
- Crew shelter tents will not be allowed in shell storage or public traffic areas. Subject to the discretion of the Beachmaster, small tents may be used but they must be up against, and secured to, the back fence. To keep the beach clear for shell traffic, teams who bring their own launches are asked to have them returned to trailers by Friday evening and kept there for the weekend.
